For Referring Physicians
Scanning for your patients
We work directly with physicians who build body composition and bone density data into their own patient programs — longevity, weight management, and GLP-1 monitoring among them. Your patient is scheduled, scanned, and sent back with a structured report you can put straight into their chart.
Our HOLOGIC Horizon-A covers far more than body composition. It supports bone density at the ISCD reference sites, FRAX ten-year fracture risk, vertebral fracture assessment, abdominal aortic calcification imaging, hip structure analysis, and pediatric reference data. If you need a specific protocol, ask.
Professional rates differ from the packages above and depend on volume and reporting requirements. Get in touch and we will walk you through how it works.
What your practice gets
- Structured report formatted for the patient chart
- Bone density at spine, hip, and forearm with T-Score and Z-Score
- FRAX ten-year fracture risk on request
- Vertebral fracture assessment and aortic calcification imaging
- Least Significant Change, so follow-ups separate real change from noise
- Single fixed location in Santa Monica, no mobile units
VisiFit does not diagnose or treat. Reports are provided for your clinical interpretation.
Before You Book
What a DEXA Scan Costs
A scan here is $149 and includes bone density and the consultation. The questions below are the ones Google returns most often for DEXA pricing, answered with the figures behind them.
How much does a DEXA scan cost in Los Angeles?
A single scan at VisiFit is $149, and the prepaid packages bring that down to $129.50 and $119.75 per scan. Across the wider Los Angeles market the spread is large: fitness-oriented studios sit under $100, clinically positioned providers between roughly $125 and $250, and referral aggregators above that. A bone density study on its own runs about $96 to $148 as a cash price at LA radiology practices.
What is the average cost of a DEXA bone scan?
No single average holds, because two different examinations share the name. A bone density study billed under CPT 77080 is reimbursed at roughly $45 by Medicare in the Los Angeles locality and between about $51 and $83 by the large commercial payers, while cash prices at LA radiology practices average near $136. A body composition scan has no CPT code at all, so its price is set by the provider rather than by a fee schedule.
Is a DEXA scan worth the money?
It earns its price when the result would change something you do. In a calorie deficit or on GLP-1 medication, the question is whether the weight leaving is fat or lean tissue, and no scale can separate the two. After menopause or on long-term bone medication, the question is what the spine and hip are doing, which needs a T-Score from those sites. If nothing would change either way, one baseline scan is enough — the second is what turns a number into a trend.
Does insurance cover a DEXA scan?
Body composition testing is generally not an insured benefit. It has no CPT code, so payers process it under an unlisted code and several — Blue Shield of California among them — classify it as investigational. Bone density testing is a separate matter and is covered for patients who meet the clinical criteria, but that goes through a physician's order and their billing rather than ours. Clients pay VisiFit directly at our online checkout, and every purchase comes with an itemised receipt.
